I just got a hair cut today from Charlie. I have been her client for many years. I have tried other salons in the area just for the sake of variety, but always return to Charlie. It has been at least several years now since I even sought to experiement with others. My hair cut is consistently well done. I appreciate the environment which is clean, attractive, and friendly. Appointments are kept on time. Costs tend to be comparable to other privately owned businesses in the area. Whether I am talkative (which is somewhat unusual) or quiet I feel comfortable there. I do not color my hair and never feel any pressure to do so. I also find that to be important.

Wanted my hair color brightened up with highlights, roots covered. They utilized a Malibu treatment which they said would brighten up my color. IT DID NOT. Then touched up my roots, however, my roots are still dark with grey showing. I would not recommend this salon.

I am an African American and I believe that might have been my first mistake, coming to a non-black salon to get my hair colored. I came in for blonde and light brown highlights and I have been natural for a few years now so I am definitely well knowledgeable on caring and moisturizing my own hair. However I thought I would try something new and get high lights. Before I came in I called to see if any one was experienced with Black hair. I am aware that usually only black salons are well experienced in handling black hair. When I talked to the representative on the phone they said yeah that they have had some experience with Black hair. I don't remember who did my hair that day but, that was a lie. After the coloring process was over and the woman shampooed and conditioned my hair she attempted to french braid my hair into 2 large french braids. The lady struggled greatly just trying to braid it and did not detangle it before trying to braid it either. Neither braid was even, both were clumpy and was overall poorly done. Separate from the french braid my actual hair was probably good just after the first wash from this salon. However every time I washed my hair afterward I experienced a lot more shedding in the shower and it was much more of the blonde pieces that were coming out. I wasn't sure what to do or how fix it and going back to the salon was not a choice. This was about 1 year ago and today I have completely grown and cut out the color I had received from this salon that day. I was overall very disappointed and frustrated that I experienced significant shedding (especially on the parts of my hair that was colored) from a salon that was suppose to be well known for coloring hair

About the only good thing about Salon XL is their convenient location. The stylists are often running behind and they charge waaaaaaay too much for a basic hair cut. I was pleased with the highlights, but Charlie gave me the same old hairstyle after I specifically said I wanted something different. I was also disappointed by how much they mark up their styling products. I've been there about 4 times and I don't think I'll be going back.

Very disappointed with my highlights from Shannon. The highlight job looks like it has different colors in different areas because it took her so long to get the foil on... And its like she didn't even try to get things close to my scalp. There is an inch of hair that she missed with the highlights!!!! (I actually measured...) You would think that she would have tried a little harder at least on the pieces on the very top and front of my head, but those look the worst!!! That's a month or two of growth! So disappointed....
