This climbing gym has great bouldering and belay areas that are updated frequently to keep you on your toes. The employees are well informed and friendly. It's an all around great climbing gym.
It has nice walls but the people that work there are really horrible to novices. Convinced the people I was with to never climb again. Totally ruined there confidence. I guess they didn't remember what it was like to be new at it. If the facility wasn't nice I would have given it a 1 star.
Overall I would highly recommend it to anyone at any level. If you are brand new they will take care of you and make sure you know what you are doing to stay safe and you still have a blast. If you are a seasoned climber there are plenty of challenging routes and strong people to climb with.
I started climbing here the last year of college (early spring of '17) and fell in love with the sport. Since then I have been to 11 other gyms across the country, but mostly the mid-west. Every time I go to a new gym I end up finding a reason to like this gym more. The staff is always happy to help with any questions ranging from beta on a problem to finding the right pair of shoes to places to go climbing outdoors. On top of that the gear shop has had everything that I have needed so far and can probably order it on the off chance they don't have something. As far as route setting goes, a new bouldering set (10-15 problems) goes up about every week and there is usually a new set for ropes (5-10 routes) in about the same time frame. If not a whole set, at least a couple new routes a week. The routes themselves are usually pretty diverse in style and are always fun and challenging. They also do a good job with the classes they offer. I can't say too much about all of them because I haven't taken them all, but the lead class and beginners class are both great. I assume the same is true for the others.
Worst staff you can ever find here. They hold grudge for you and will take your privilege back whenever it's convenient for them so that you need to spend more money and energy on it again! If you are ever going to get an lead certificate, don't come to Ann Arbor, go to Madison Heights or Lifetime. They have much nicer staff who are truly helpful for your improvement instead of abusing their power.
Went climbing with a few buddies for the first time here in November when they let members bring a guest for free. I was very impressed with the size of the facility and selection of routes. It is certainly geared towards more advanced climbers but I managed to hold my own on a number of moderately challenging climbs. Prices are on the high end so plan to stay until your forearms turn to jello to get your money's worth.
